Sydney Division welcomes National Presedent Merv Lindsay
On Wednesday 31 August, National President, Merv Lindsay visited Sydney Division and presented an insight into Engineers Australia nationally. Many of the Division’s groups were represented at the Forum, and presented their feedback to the National President on the National agenda, as well as an update on activities at Sydney Division. Merv spoke about his passion and dedication to raising chartered status, as well as making the qualification more relevant to members. Merv spoke about the various challenges that Engineers Australia faces in ensuring that members are well represented and engaged and the achievements to date with all groups nationally towards goals such as the review of chartered status, and national registration.
Sydney Division presented an update on the Year of Humanitarian Engineering, which included the successful Launch at the beginning of the year, at Google, and over 26 events to date. Many groups have been involved in holding events showcasing Humanitarian Engineering, including YEAS, WIE, and CELM. Congratulations to all groups and thank you to our supporting organisation – EWB and RedR.
The Forum also included a presentation from Brendyn Williams, Deputy President on 2012: The Year of the Regional Engineering Team, and the challenges which we are hoping to overcome in engaging our regional members.
And finally, there was a lively discussion with respect to the recent Ballot. Merv updated the Division on the independent report which has issued on the Ballot process, and confirmed that Engineers Australia’s process has received a green flag from the independent body which conducted the analysis and issued the report. With this in hand, Engineers Australia, now looks towards moving forward and implementing the changes.
Sydney Division is quite fortunate to have three Council members as a part of the Division committee, and thus, we quite often receive Council updates. This ensured that the discussion at the forum was well informed and continued well into the evening! On behalf of Sydney Division, I would like to thank Merv Lindsay for visiting us and for his hard work and dedication throughout this year.
