The Western Sydney Region Group of Engineers Australia facilitated a technical visit to Sydney Water’s new Head Office building in Parramatta on Wednesday 18th May. The event was organised for a small group of members and all 15 places were totally booked by the second day following the broadcasting of the event.

Craig Heitmann, Manager – Facilities Management and Maintenance, ably assisted by Aron Calfas, Acting Environmental Scientist, gave us a personalised guided tour of various parts of this high security building with the highlight being an inspection of the Blackwater Plant. The building’s water recycling and energy efficiency features were outlined; features which are pivotal to Sydney Water reducing the building’s drinking water requirements by up to 75% compared to a typical office building and greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. It was an excellent technical tour.

After the tour members were treated to a light sit down supper where more discussion ensued and opportunity to network with each other.

At the conclusion of the visit, all present extended their appreciation to Sydney Water and in particular to Craig and to Aron for a most interesting and informative session.
