Time for national focus on regional rail infrastructure

The Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) has welcomed the release of a report by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Transport and Regional Services.

‘The Great Freight Task’ is the result of a lengthy Parliamentary Inquiry (chaired by the Hon Paul Neville MP) investigating the relationship and co-ordination between Australia’s road and rail networks and their connectivity to ports.

The RTSA’s Government Relations spokesman, Mr Andrew Honan has called on both the government and opposition to urgently commit to implementing the Committee’s findings in relation to Australia’s rail networks, especially with regard to regional rail issues. “Our regional rail links are in crisis,” Mr Honan said.
