Trio of young engineers through to O.F. Blakey final
Three young engineers have won their way into the final of the O.F. Blakey Public Presentation award to be held on 8 December.
The engineers will compete for a $2,000 cash prize as well as an award.
The finalists are:
-
Glenn Donaldson, an engineer with Main Roads WA who spoke on ‘Engineering Change’
-
Amanda Pryce,a structural engineer with Aurecon, who spoke about the Perth Arena project
-
John Bills, who recently graduated from Curtin University in mechanical engineering, spoke on reducing inter-wagon forces in heavy haul trains. John is due to start work shortly with General Electric in its Engineering Graduate Leadership Program.
The competition emphasises communication skills for engineers and requires them to speak on an engineering topic.
The award commemorates Professor O. F. Blakey, the first Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Western Australia.
Professor Blakey was also a Councillor of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, from 1936 to 1951; Chairman of the former Perth Division in 1936 and 1942; and President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, in 1945.
The winner of this year’s medal will be decided on 8 December at the Engineers Australia annual dinner.
