Victoria @ 9 Million - What will it look like?

SEMINAR

Wednesday 9th June 2010, 4.30-6.30pm

Department of Transport, 5/121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne

Victoria’s population is growing at an unprecedented rate. The most recent forecasts predict a population in the year 2050 of 7 million for Melbourne and 9 million for Victoria – significantly higher than assumed in our current planning strategy and transport plan.

What does this mean for land use and transport planning in Victoria and Melbourne? Is it more of the same or do we need a fresh approach to successfully transition to this new “Big Australia”?

Come along and hear from three high-profile speakers about future directions for Australian cities, and the Commonwealth agenda for transport and land use planning. The speakers will compare Victorian cities with others on an international stage and identify several big ideas we should consider as we approach 2050.

Speakers
Prof Lyndsay Neilson, Founding Director for the Centre for Developing Cities
John Stanley, Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies, Uni of Sydney
Brian Haratsis, Director, Macroplan
