Victoria Floods - Message from the Acting Division President

On behalf of all of Victoria Division, I express heartfelt concerns for all our Regional friends caught up in yet another flood event.

You are upper most in our thoughts, and our prayers are with you and your loved ones in these difficult times. We are especially mindful that these floods are occurring so soon after the recent September events - not to mention the prolonged drought and recent locust plagues. We sincerely hope that things will be better than the current dire predictions.

It would seem that the theme years for 2010, 2011 and 2012 are all converging for us now.

We will need ‘Engineering Leadership’, and ‘Humanitarian Engineering’ and we will rely heavily on the skills and abilities of our ‘Regional Engineers’.

As our National President stated in his response to the flood emergency, we encourage all those who wish to make a contribution to do so via the established channels. In Victoria donations can be made via the Red Cross Victorian Floods Appeal and members can register to volunteer on the Volunteer website http://www.volunteer.vic.gov.au

As was the case with the recent bush fires, Victoria Division has already made representation to the Victorian Government to offer assistance in the recovery process.

Many of our members have already, or will soon be making their own personal contribution to rectifying the impacts of the floods through their employers, involvement in community groups or other avenues. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the ongoing united community effort.

We stand ready to assist you, over the coming weeks and possibly months, as your "extended" engineering family in whatever way might be possible.
