Wear Red for RedR Day

As part of the Year of Humanitarian Engineering activities, The Communication and Marketing Directorate at Engineers Australia National Office hosted a ‘Wear Red for RedR Day Sausage Sizzle’ on Friday 18 February 2011.

The smell of freshly cooked sausages and onions lured many away from their desks, resulting in a total $612.30 raised for RedR.

RedR Australia provide disaster relief by training people to assist after major disasters.

When disaster strikes RedR Australia is on permanent standby. UN relief agencies and NGOs request people with particular skills and RedR Australia nominates personnel from their standby register.

Alec Gray, a local member of RedR attended the sausage sizzle and spoke about his life-changing experiences with this not-for-profit organisation in the Maldives and South Chile. Alec also helped to draw the raffle which the marketing team organised.

Colleen Mays from Canberra Division was lucky enough to win first prize – a gift certificate for 'On Red' restaurant and a bottle of red. Second prize went to John Lynch from Education and Assessment – John won a picnic backpack and a bottle of sparkling red and third prize, which included chocolates and red cocktail mix, was won by Fiona Quilter from Executive.

There was a prize for best dressed; a bright red matching red tracksuit caught everyone's eye. The winner, Fiona Tregoning from Education and Assessment received a hamper of 'red goodies'.

Thank you to all who attended in their red attire and helped to support the cause.
