2016 Women in Engineering Scholarship Opportunity Tuesday, 05 April 2016

Engineers Australia’s Women in Engineering National Committee is offering a scholarship for a female engineer to attend a course or conference of their choice during the 2016/17 financial year. The scholarship aims to acknowledge female engineers with 7 – 15 years’ experience and encourage them to take the next step in their career, as well as support female engineers who may not otherwise have such an opportunity.

The scholarship will comprise of up to $5000 to cover either conference registration or course attendance, travel costs and accommodation.

Industry is becoming more aware of the importance and value of diversity, especially with the retaining and leveraging women in engineering.  Currently there is still a leaky pipe for women in engineering.  With approximately 11% of engineering women entering the workforce, over a short time only approximately 9% of women will remain in the engineering industry.  EA’s Women in Engineering National Committee wish to further assist women in engineering better arm themselves to take increasing opportunities and to be more integral with decision making to assist in creating a sustainable future for society.

Peter Drucker, who was considered an important thought leader in the world of management stated that “The dominant factor for business in the next two decades is not going to be economics or technology; it will be demographics.”

For women engineers it is so transparent that diversity will bring success to organisations, business in general and boost confidence.  The truth is that women bring in a very different viewpoint and challenge the status quo.

It is hoped that by providing this opportunity the WIENC can help lift resilience and overall integrity, and support another women engineer on their way to success.
