Celebrating Newcastle’s engineering community Thursday, 25 August 2016

Tim De Grauw FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER APEC Engineer, Engineers Australia Newcastle President 2016Message by Tim De Grauw FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER RPEQ, Engineers Australia Newcastle President 2016.

The Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA) Newcastle 2016 is an occasion for us to celebrate our world-class engineering achievements.  Not only should we celebrate those achievements, it is an opportunity to showcase the engineering innovation and capability that the region is internationally recognised for.

Historically, despite everyone involved in an engineering project striving for excellence and delivering outstanding outcomes via innovative solutions, the projects are not usually destined to be celebrated in the main-stream news and the general community.

The Engineering Excellence Awards program is instrumental in recognising these wonderful projects and dedicated professionals.  Seeing the solutions they have delivered and hearing stories of their efforts gives insight that might otherwise never be appreciated.  It is important to share news of the excellent work that engineers have delivered to, and for, our community.  Pass-it-on’, and the Engineers Australia voice will continue to grow and be heard.

All projects nominated have had significant engineering carried out within Newcastle region. Through a detailed and thorough judging process each project has been assessed by a panel of eminent engineers, with sound engineering practice, engineering innovation and community and environmental benefits forming the basis of the judging criteria.  Excellence Award winners from the Newcastle program are eligible to compete at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards which will take place in November.  All entrants and award recipients should be proud in the knowledge that their work is highly valued by their clients and our profession. I congratulate each of them for their representation of engineering.

I invite you to join me at the AEEA Newcastle 2016 Awards Night on Friday 16 September. In addition to announcement of Excellence Award winners, we will also be revealing the winners of the Newcastle’s Young Professional Engineer of the Year and Professional Engineer of the Year.
