Engineering Register to manage risk Thursday, 11 February 2016

Engineers Australia provides confidence to the public and consumers through its National Engineering Register (NER) which records information about an engineer’s knowledge, skills and training.

Incidents like last week’s collapse of Milano’s on the Lake restaurant will require authorities to examine the causes behind the structure's demise. Preliminary investigations suggest that the building will not be saved. Engineers Australia advises that greater use of the NER should be included in the recommendations for future action.

An NER-registered engineer has a recognised and internationally-benchmarked qualification, relevant professional experience, and performs ongoing training. They also hold professional indemnity insurance and adhere to the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics.

Engineering is about problem solving, providing clients with informed and expert advice, and ensuring that the welfare of the community is protected. The NER can help consumers and authorities to manage risk.

NER is the largest engineering register in Australia. This register was launched by the peak engineering body in November 2015 as a service to the community.

You can now access the National Engineering Register online to locate a qualified engineer in your area.
