Global Reach April 2016 International Committee Chair Column Thursday, 28 April 2016

Welcome to another newsletter for our international members where we aim to keep you informed about Engineers Australia activities across the world.

Members in the Asian region will have enjoyed meeting National President John McIntosh during his recent visit in March. I am sure there were opportunities for discussion on new directions for the organisation and plans for members who are based around the world. Members in the UK and Middle East can look forward to the National President’s visit in August.

During the WFEO board meetings in UNESCO last month, I am pleased to advise that WFEO had the opportunity to renew its agreement to be an associate organisation of UNESCO for the next eight years. This highlights the importance of the work done by WFEO and its committees in supporting the strategic objectives of UNESCO.

At the signing, the Assistant Director General of UNESCO, Dr. Flavia Schlegel, emphasised the importance of strategic alignment of WFEO and UNESCO in various activities including events such as the World Engineering Convention to be held in Melbourne in 2019 and capacity building in engineering via Africa Engineering Week.

For Engineers Australia members WFEO provide an opportunity to have a voice at the highest international levels as well as to progress activities that support development of the engineering profession in Asia, Africa and South America.
