From ITEE College Board Chair Geoff Sizer Friday, 09 December 2016

With my term as ITEE College Chair drawing to a close, it is time to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the last two years and to look to the future.

Without doubt the most significant achievement of the College during my term is the successful launch in July of the Applied IoT Engineering Community. With more than 500 members and the delivery of over 3000 CPD person hours via the weekly webinar series, the community has surpassed expectations at this early stage of its evolution.

Moving forward, the community will build a substantial body of knowledge on IoT and provide a collaboration platform via its online forums and blogs. The ITEE College’s success in establishing the community and webinar program was recognised by a special mention under the President’s Prize at EA’s recent Australian Engineering Excellence Awards.

The changes that have occurred within EA with the move to a Board structure have posed a number of challenges, including revised College Board roles, structure and regulations. These have been successfully implemented, culminating in the creation of a three-year rolling plan to guide College operation which dovetails with EA’s Strategic Priorities.

Throughout the next year, the College will deliver on a major project to update competency standards, practice notes and Define Your Discipline documents for information engineering, telecommunications, electronics engineering, computer system engineering, software engineering, mechatronics and control. A number of position papers are planned, the first being on computer security. The College will promote ITEE-related conference streams for EA’s Australian Engineering Conference in 2018 and the World Engineering Convention in 2019. It is anticipated the College will initiate the formation of additional online communities.

Every member of the ITEE College is encouraged to participate in our activities in 2017, as a volunteer contributing to our initiatives and by participating in online events and those run by local Branches.

I welcome Professor Ljubo Vlacic as the incoming ITEE College Chair for 2017 and 2018.
