Nick Clarke MBE CSC AFIEAust CEngA EngExec NER currenlty works for AMW Professional Services and has worked and lived in the UK, Saudi Arabia and Australia. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2000 for a major Royal Air Force station relocation and charity work. In January 2010, he was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for his work in the SATCOM environment.

What are your goals as President?

To inspire young people to develop an interest in engineering, and, in doing so, recognise the importance and excitement of engineering as a future career. Strive to develop relationships with schools that foster engineering-related studies, particularly those that combine science/maths curriculum with creative, hands-on projects. Promote scientific literacy and advanced engineering to ensure academically enriching experiences. To promote diversity in engineering and illustrate the enormous impact that engineering has on the modern world. And, to create an environment where experienced engineers can teach and develop young minds.

Why are you an engineer?

Because I wanted to make a difference and use my knowledge and skills to identify and reduce risks and keep people safe.

Favourite TV show?

Pawn Stars. I actually went to the shop in Las Vegas on my last trip to the USA.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you like to have with you?

A laptop with power source, an internet connection and a good wine cellar!

If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, who would it be?

Martin Luther King Jr.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Travelling with my wife and spending time with my family. Due to my career, I have spent many years apart from my family.

What is your favourite quote?

“Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way!” General George Patton

What is your favourite movie?

Love Actually and the Holiday – we play them as family movies every year in the lead up to Christmas.

What is the greatest piece of technology released in the last decade?

The iPhone and iPad and the battery technology that had to be designed to make the size of the device.

What inspires you?

Outstanding leadership. I have been extremely privileged to work with some outstanding leaders.

What is your motto?

Work hard, play hard and have fun!

How do you achieve work/life balance?

Working four days a week.
