NT students inspired to study science, engineering Wednesday, 04 November 2015

Over 100 high school students from Darwin and surrounds were recently immersed in hands-on science workshops at Charles Darwin University’s Casuarina campus, as part of ConocoPhillips' Science Experience.

The students were exposed to a variety of disciplines including engineering and information technology. Engineers Australia recognises the vital importance of such experiences for students at this critical time in their lives.

“The ConocoPhillips 3-day workshops provide a great opportunity for students in the Territory to get a taste for the different flavours of science and engineering”, said Mr Greg Ewing, Engineers Australia General Manager - Northern Division.

“Having a practical lesson or experimenting in a laboratory is a great way for a student to think outside the box” says Mr Ewing.

“Attending workshops like these is a good idea, especially in conjunction with the variety of engineering experiences offered by CDU and Engineers Australia throughout the year."

“High school students can access activities such as open days, student and graduate events, Australian Engineering Week, and site tours.”

"Students and teachers can also access Engineers Australia’s national EngQuest program which has curriculum-appropriate classroom engineering projects across all the STEM subjects of science, technology, engineering and maths."
