Nominate for National and Northern Division office-bearing positions

Engineers Australia office-bearing positions for the 2017 calendar year are now open for nomination.

Nationally, there are positions open on the National Board, National Congress and on College Boards, including the newly formed College of Leadership and Management. It would be very exciting to receive nominations locally to contribute to these national opportunities of significance.

We also currently have a number of Northern Division Committee positions. The Division Committee has developed a number of strategic goals over the next two years. The aim of developing these strategic goals is to strengthen our position as the trusted voice of the profession as we influence government policy and build our profile in the wider community. If you would like to take a leadership role on policy positions, please nominate as a candidate for an office-bearing role.

Engineers Australia office bearers bring key strategic value to the profession. If you have the skills and expertise to provide trusted and highly respected leadership and advocacy for the engineering profession, you are encouraged to self-nominate or encourage others to nominate, seeking seconders. The whole organisation benefits from your contribution, so please submit your online nominations by 5.00pm AEST Friday 29 July 2016.

Nominate an outstanding engineer for the Australian of the Year Awards

Do you know an engineer of the likes of Marita Cheng, the recipient of the 2012 Young Australian of the Year Award?

Australians are being asked to nominate their local heroes and admirable Australians for the 2017 Australian of the Year Awards.

The Australian of the Year Awards rely on the public to submit nominations for fellow Australians they would like to see recognised by the Awards.

There are four Awards categories:

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior of the Year (65 years and over)
  • Young Australian (16 to 30 years)
  • Australia’s Local Hero

Nominations can be made online until midnight 7 August 2016.

Ben Roberts-Smith VC MG, Chair of the National Australia Day Council, encourages the public to get involved and nominate people who are worthy of attention.

“Nominations from the public are vitally important – it’s the public who know the people doing great things in our communities,” Mr Roberts-Smith said.

“The Awards recognise 128 people nationally each year – people from diverse backgrounds around the nation who contribute in many different ways.

“The four Awards categories – Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero – are equal in their importance and allow us to honour people across a range of areas.”

The Awards judging criteria considers:

  • Demonstrated excellence in their field
  • Significant contribution to the Australian community and nation
  • An inspirational role model for the Australian community
  • The Local Hero Award acknowledges a significant contribution at local community level
