Persephone Project: North Rankin Complex’s Subsea Tieback Wednesday, 15 June 2016

Since winning the 2014 Overall WA Award at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA) Western Australia and a National AEEA Award the same year, Woodside have continued to build on their successful execution of North Rankin Redevelopment project as they move to their next major gas development, Persephone.

Persephone is a two-well 7km subsea tie-back to the 2014 AEEA Award winning North Rankin Complex (NRC). As part of Woodside’s Subsea Tieback program, Persephone will seek to maximize synergies and deliver cost savings across a range of projects of similar scope, cost, risk, complexity and timeframes. The project will represent a total investment of approximately $AUD1.2 billion.

Persephone will be the NRC’s first subsea tieback and its success will require extensive brownfield work, including piping modifications, the installation of subsea control infrastructure and improved hydrate and produced water management capabilities.

Trish Long, Persephone Project Manager notes the importance of close collaboration between the project and asset teams in overcoming the challenges of executing brownfield work, “we need to complete this work safely and deliver it in a manner that minimises disruption to production while protecting the project’s schedule.”

Trish has also highlighted the importance of team work and communications to the successful execution of Persephone, “with the team now in offshore execution mode, it’s important to recognize the work and effort that underpinned a successful design and fabrication phase.”

The Persephone Project is the third major gas development for the North West Shelf Project in the past six years and will help maintain offshore supply to the Karratha Gas Plant. Woodside is operator of the Persephone Project on behalf of the North West Shelf Project participants.

The Persephone project remains on schedule for start-up in early 2018.

Project submissions in to the AEEA Western Australia Awards 2016 close Friday 8 July 2016. Don’t miss your chance to be recognised among some of the finest engineering companies in the world.
