Transport Australia Society (TAs)

Establishing a branch of Transport Australia Society (TAs) in Canberra… can you help?

In mid-2015, Engineers Australia launched the TAs to provide a forum for high level, multi-disciplinary responses to transport issues in Australia.  We now want to establish a branch of TAs in Canberra.

How can you help?

If you have an interest in transport issues (for the ACT, nationally, or internationally) we ask you to consider volunteering to be a member of the inaugural committee for the new Canberra branch of TAs.  You do not need to be a member of Engineers Australia, however, you will need to be a member of TAs which you can join online at: https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/TAs/join-transport-australia-society.

Bob Nairn, Kip Tanner and Alan Thompson have agreed to be part of the committee.

Please email your nomination to [email protected], including a very brief CV (of 200 words maximum) and your contact details.

We need your nomination by Friday 29 January 2016.

What will happen next?

We aim to have a meeting of all nominees in early to mid February 2016 to :

  • Appoint inaugural branch committee office bearers
  • Begin to develop a program of transport-related events for 2016 and beyond.

Read on if you want some further information about TAs…

What is TAs?

TAs intends to focus on “front-end and big picture” decisions about transport policies, transport infrastructure and technologies.  It will also provide a forum for a wide variety of transport practitioners to compare notes and learn from each other.

The EA Council has agreed that membership should not be restricted to EA members, but will be open to all transport professionals.

TAs now has a national executive committee, chaired by Christian Griffith of Melbourne, with Lachlan Lee Archer as the Deputy Chair, and Alan Thompson as Treasurer.

The TAs national executive committee has provided comment to Infrastructure Australia about the recent audit of Australia’s infrastructure, and has developed a preliminary list of six key issues for Australia’s transport systems. You can view these issues on the TAs website.

We look forward to receiving your nomination for the new Canberra Committee of the Transport Australia Society.
