Engineering is an exciting and rewarding profession, with an extensive range of disciplines, from biomedical or environmental engineering to mechanical or civil engineering.

Australian Engineering Week in Sydney aims to celebrate the unique and innovative nature of this industry and its professionals with a vast array of interactive activities, talks, and workshops held between Saturday 1 and Tuesday 11 August 2015.

This year’s Australian Engineering Week is asking participants ‘What will you discover?’ and answering the question via a variety of events held throughout the week.

A celebration of the significant and valued contribution engineers provide to economic, social and technological aspects of our daily lives, Australian Engineering Week Sydney 2015 is not to be missed.

A highlight of Australian Engineering Week, the University of New South Wales (UNSW)’s student-led group CREATE will be showcasing their groundbreaking life size, robotic Pac Man game to the public.

Chomping through innovation barriers with Project Pac Man will beheld on Tuesday 4 August 2015, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, at Australian Technology Park. The Pac Man project, which was created for Intel as an installation at VIVID Sydney, was executed by a group of second and third year undergraduates – from the design of the course to robotics programming, and laser cutting perspex to 3D part-printing.

Nathan Adler, President and founding member of CREATE UNSW will speak at the event about the unique CREATE model, how it all came about, why the PACMAN project represents  success for the group, and the wider implications it has for engineering and society so be sure to check it out.

Another highlight Australian Engineering Week event is The Forum: WestConnexat 6:00pm on Wednesday 5 August at the Museum of Sydney. The forumwill generate a thought provoking discussion of the mammoth WestConnex project – touted as the largest, most significant road project since the Sydney Harbour Bridge – via a panel of key industry stakeholders and spokespersons.

Forum facilitator Michael Veysey is an experienced senior infrastructure and transport professional with over 30 years’ experience in the industry. The panelists include industry heavyweights Dennis Cliché Chief Executive Officer at WestConnex Delivery Authority, Ken Kanofski Chief Operating Officer of Roads and Maritime Servicesand Chris Johnson CEO of Urban Taskforce.

Take a step into the future with Beyond 2020 – What the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution means for you. Held on Thursday 6 August at The Australian Technology Park, CEO of LX Group, Simon Blyth will share insights on what the IoT means for consumers, businesses and technology entrepreneurs looking for IoT opportunities. IoT, which is the concept of connecting any device to the Internet, is being heralded as bigger than the .com boom and even the industrial revolution – so you don’t miss this pertinent presentation.
