About Us

Engineers Australia is the largest and most diverse engineering association in Australia, with approximately 90,000 members nationally and over 20,000 in Queensland. We undertake a range of vital programs to support the engineering profession.

Our activities maintain engineering standards in Australia by accrediting individual engineering competence to our Chartered status, and accrediting tertiary engineering qualifications to international standards.

In addition to this, we cultivate lifelong learning by our members, celebrate excellence in engineering outcomes, champion professional and ethical conduct, and encourage primary and secondary students to explore the wonders of a career in the engineering and become the next generation of engineers.

Division Staff

Ian McEwan
Executive Director

Ian has been with Engineers Australia across a multitude of roles for more than a decade. After serving Queensland Division as Deputy Director for a number of years, Ian accepted the role of Executive Director of South Australia Division in early 2007. When the opportunity to lead the Queensland Division arose in early 2009, he returned as Executive Director and has implemented a series of changes to enhance the services and support offered to members and office bearers. Now happily resettled in Brisbane, Ian and his partner Clair are currently in negotiations with their two young children about the appointment of their first family pet: from lizards to guinea pigs, cats to bunnies, Ian is hopeful they will soon agree on his personal wish for a puppy. But there mightn't be much playtime as Ian has a very busy year ahead leading the Queensland Division as it responds to the Professional Engineers Act, skills shortages, and issues surrounding infrastructure and population.
