2010 Presentations

Northern Network Alliance Site Tour
Thursday 14 October 9.15am

The Northern Network Alliance are offering to host a limited tour (first 20 people only) of the longest pipe jacking tunnel bore in the southern hemisphere (>1km). This is a unique opportunity and as places will fill quickly be sure to RSVP today!

On October 14 2010 the Sunshine Coast Local Group were exclusively invited by the Northern Network Alliance to view the longest tunnel jacking in the southern hemisphere - through Pringle Hill, Nambour. This was a great opportunity for local engineers to network together and interact with one of the largest government projects in SE QLD by viewing the highly polictically sensitive project in person and up close. The NNA provided us with a brief overview seminar, answered questions, transported us to the construction site and then halted operations while some 25 engineers were given the grand tour! The site foremen answered many more questions as we observed large diameter pipes being pushed through the hill. Engineers Australia expresses its gratitude to Construction Procurement Interface Officer Simon Byrne for organising and conducting the tour and for inspiring the local group.

CHANGE - A SIMPLE PROCESS, COMPLICATED BY PEOPLE

By Andrew Ryan, Executive Director- Infrastructure Services, Sunshine Coast Regional

The Sunshine Coast Branch of Engineers Australia held yet another successful monthly seminar on 17th November where people were invited to listen to Andrew Ryan, Executive Director of Infrastructure Services for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council speak of the change process deployed by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to unify and integrate the three very different cultures within the new Infrastructure Services Department, in alignment with a corporate change program. The Sunshine Coast Council is the fourth largest Local Government Council in Australia and was formed from the previous Caloundra City, Maroochy Shire and Noosa Councils.

As always, guests enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Chancellor Park Tavern and attendees had the chance to network over a few drinks. During the evening the Engineers Australia Committee members were presented a gift of appreciation for their efforts throughout the year. This Seminar capped off a successful year for Engineers Australia, Sunshine Coast Division and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those members who have contributed throughout the year and attended our functions, site visits and seminars. We wish you and your families a safe and Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
