AUGUST 2010

Chair Report - Kenn Beer

This being my first ‘Chair’s Report’, I’d like to tell you about a few of my visions for YEA-V this year.

I see YEA-V continuing to develop as the premier body for young engineers in Australia. I see us building on the great work done by the 2009/10 committee in policy development, strategic planning and community enrichment; I also see us having a lot of fun!

We’ve got a fantastic new committee this year, which you can get to know a bit in the coming pages. They are a group of committed, professional and enthusiastic young engineers and they are all keen to make a difference.

Make sure you have a look at our upcoming events. These are a great opportunity to meet other young engineers, learn a few things and have a bit of fun.

Finally, I realise that with the 24-hour news cycle and today’s constant flow of information, this Chair’s report probably doesn’t top your reading list. For that reason, I’ll keep these updates short.

This new information cycle is also widely accredited with lowering attention spans and increasing our need for constant stimulation. So each month I’ll be publishing an engineering focussed cartoon to keep you interested.

This first one is for all you electrical engineers. If you’ve got comments, and idea, or you’d like to submit one of your own (appropriate) cartoons, let me know.
