APRIL 2011

Chair Report - Kenn Beer

I can’t believe April is already upon us. My Christmas tree is still up and I continue to use “season’s greetings” to open and close conversations. Nonetheless, things have managed to move along quite productively through the first three months of this year.

Our first few social events this calendar year were huge successes, setting us up for a massive run into the big one. That’s right, the Gala Dinner. This event is going to be huge, and thanks to our great friends at Leighton Contractors (the major sponsor), we’re able to bring you this high class night at a reasonable price.

We’ve already sold out of early bird tickets, and the registrations keep flowing in. So make sure you get your friends and colleagues together and book some seats at what is quickly becoming the biggest night on the whole Engineers Australia calendar.

This year also sees the return of the Engineering Excellence Awards. This is a great opportunity for your companies to submit your feats of engineering awesomeness to Engineers Australia for assessment. Having had the honour of being a judge in the past and seeing the quality of the top-placing entries, I suggest you only enter the best of the best projects for these awards.

Well, I know what you’re all waiting for, and here it is. I drew this month’s cartoon after an irate member of my committee told me that I was ignoring Chemical Engineers in my cartoons. Chemical engineering wasn’t one of my strongest subjects so I had to really get back to the basics for this one.
