FEBRUARY 2011

Chair Report - Kenn Beer

Well, here we go for another year. We’ve had a bit of a slowdown here at YEA-V headquarters in the last month, but we’re now ramping it up again. Hopefully some of your New Year’s resolutions are still intact. On that, my boss has informed me that he is going to open a club called Resolutions that would be a gym for the first month of the year and revert to a bar for the remaining 11 months. I like his thinking.

In the next few months we’ve got some cracking events for your enjoyment. The Sustainable Living Festival is almost upon us, and YEA-V will again be having a debate against the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. Due to popular demand, we’ve secured Catherine Deveny as our debate moderator for the second time. If Catherine’s guaranteed controversial moderating hasn’t ensured your presence at this event, it’s also a great excuse to have a look at some of the great exhibitions, have a glass of organic wine or beer and become closer to nature. Best of all, it’s FREE (except the beer and wine).

Also in the first half of 2011 is the return of the YEA-V Gala Dinner. The last one of these, to quote a former YEA-V Chair, “went off like a frog in a sock.” I’m sure this year’s will be equally frog and sock-ish. Keep an eye out for upcoming ticket sales.

Following the success of my first few cartoons I’ve grabbed the pencil and paper again. Between swigs of eggnog I managed to sketch this little beauty for you mechanical engineers, or really any handyman.

Don't forget to like YEA-V on Facebook and keep up to date with the latest young engineering news.

Have a great 2011.

Cheers,

Kenn Beer
