Aims of the Society of Building Service Engineers
The aims of the Society are to guide and foster the acquisition and exchange of knowledge in all matters pertaining to engineering and services relating to buildings, and in particular:
- To act as a learned society embracing all aspects of engineering theory and practice, relevant to the application of building engineering services in Australia.
- To promote the wider application of sustainable and energy efficient buildings in the interests of Australian economic development.
- To inform its members of local and overseas activities of scientific and engineering significance in the field of building engineering services.
- To provide opportunities for intellectual and fraternal exchange for Society members with a common interest in the development of building engineering services and associated technologies.
- To liaise with other scientific and engineering bodies with similar aims, and in particular to represent Australia on international organisations, such as the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air conditioning and Heating (AIRAH), American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) - USA, the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) - UK and others that may from time to time meet the Societies aims.
To achieve these aims the society encourages people to be active participants in its affairs.

- Holding a number of formal meetings and site visits each year, addressing matters relating to building services engineering and associated technologies and covering the broadest possible range of interest.
- Organising technical conferences with the widest possible participation in support of building engineering services and related technologies; the conference may be organised in conjunction with other organisations.
- Circulating a publication or newsletter of the Society, which will include news and technical articles, which may be of interest and value to the members of the Society.
