Strategic Direction

Our business processes are designed to translate the aspirations spelt out in our Strategic Plan 2005 - 2010 into specific actions which are prioritised into an Operational Plan each year, and funded through an ouput-based budget across the whole organisation.

Engineers Australia relies on the combined efforts of our network of active members - who volunteer their expertise, enthusiasm, and time - and our dedicated staff who support them and give effect to many of the initiatives necessary for us to sustain our relevance into the future.

Our Supplemental Royal Charter and Bye-Laws places obligations on us to advance the science and practice of engineering, and to advance the interest of our members and the profession.

Preparing Our Strategic Plan 2010-2015

Pre-planning activity continues for the preparation of our Strategic Plan for the five years 2010-2015. Council was briefed in May 2008 on the processes to be used, and the state of play since then is as follows:

  • Background Notes were prepared which explain the process in more detail, and which record the results of planning efforts commissioned by Council in 2006 and 2007

  • During the latter half of 2008, planning sessions were held with groups in Divisions, resulting in the report of the Environmental Scanning Project ; the executive staff of Engineers Australia then considered that report in workshop in February and produced Reflections on the Environmental Scanning Project

  • In response to invitations to lodge suggestions or comments, seven submissions from individuals or groups were made by e-mail to EA_Strategic_Plan@engineersaustralia.org.au

  • A draft Benchmarking Report has been produced from benchmarking sessions and submissions provided by our eight College Boards and our six national Special Interest Groups during the period September-February

  • Focus Groups drawn from volunteer Congress delegates will now consider strategies for our key stakeholders, and report by end-May
The preparatory reports will then be collated as reference material for Congress delegates, staff executives and other participants in the Planning Forum on 22 July 2009 in Canberra.
