Fellows’ Luncheons

 

Engineers Australia Sydney division conducts Fellows Luncheons to welcome new members who have upgraded to Fellow Status. The luncheons are very popular among current Fellows as an opportunity to meet their peers.

Fellows’ Luncheon – March 2012

The March Fellows’ Luncheon at Parliament House was hosted by Mr Craig Baumann MP, with guest speaker Richard Tamba, and special guest Dr Elizabeth Farrelly, Opinion Columnist Sydney Morning Herald and 160 Sydney Division Fellows and their guests.

We welcomed 10 new Fellows and 4 Honorary Fellow into Engineers Australia Sydney Division.

The guest speaker, Richard Tamba, CCEO (Certified CEO) of Nautitech and Entrepreneur of the Year, Sydney Division 2011, captivated the audience with his presentation about the growth of his Engineering Company in the International market place. Richard informed the audience about the professional steps taken in his career to reach his current occupation. He also discussed how Nautitceh kept abroad of the changes in the market and how Nautitech continue to keep up to date with current consumer needs and trends. Richard also discussed in some detail how the development of his products within the Automotive, Marine and Mining Industries.

The Luncheon was closed by Alexandra Meldrum, Sydney Division Vice Deputy President, who delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The next Fellows’ Luncheon will take place on Friday 9 November 2012.
 

Fellows’ Luncheon – March 2011 

The March Fellows’ Luncheon at Parliament House was hosted by Mr Craig Baumann MP, guest speaker Professor Stuart Wenham and by 160 Fellows and their guests.

We welcomed 20 new Fellows and 1 Honorary Fellow into Engineers Australia Sydney Division.

The guest speaker was Scientia Professor Stuart Wenham at The University of New South Wales and Chief Technical Officer of Suntech Power.  Stuart is also Sydney Divisions Professional Engineer of the Year 2010. 

Professor Wenham captivated the audience with his presentation on Photovoltaics Coming of Age.  He discussed how Photovoltaics is the fastest growing industry in the world for its size, now exceeding $100 billion/year world-wide and doubling every 1-2 years. Stuart also spoke about how this rapid growth and development towards reaching grid parity, is being fuelled by technology development, falling costs, Government support in many countries and the growing awareness of mankind for the need for sustainable and environmentally friendly energy supplies. Stuart finished with mentioning Australia's contributions to this rapid development, particularly through technology development and commercialisation but also through the education and training of many of the senior managers of the world's largest photovoltaic companies.

The Luncheon was closed by Brendyn Williams, Sydney Division Deputy President, who delivered the Vote of Thanks.

 

Fellows' Luncheon - November 2010

The guest speaker was Dr Simon Poole, Director New Business Ventures, Finisar Australia Pty Ltd, and also Sydney Divisions Entrepreneur Engineer of the Year 2010.

Dr Poole discussed his journey through 30 years of successful photonics start-ups in the UK and Australia. Which include university research groups, university spin-outs, VC-funded start-ups and (most recently) an internal start-up (intrapreneuring). Dr Poole continued to discuss that companies funded by him have generated over $250m in exports from Australia and his current company, Finisar Australia, now employs over 300 people in R&D and manufacturing plant at its plant in Waterloo. The audience was captivated by Dr Poole's talk and generated a fruitful question and answer time.
