Engineers Australia plays an important role in promoting engineering excellence and the contribution engineering makes to the community. Our award programs seek to identify, recognise and reward outstanding achievement, eminence in the practice of engineering, and conspicuous service to the profession.

Tasmania Division Professional Engineer of the Year - Richard Herweynen, MIEAust CPEng.

Richard is a Civil Engineer and Principal Consultant with Entura, Hydro Tasmania's consulting business. Richard's areas of expertise are in dam engineering and hydropower engineering.

Richard is a member of Entura's Technical Leadership Team, providing technical leadership to this international consulting business.

Richard has demonstrated international engineering competence across a wide range of projects in many countries including Philippines, Brazil, India, China, Samoa, South Korea, PNG and Malaysia, as well as Australia.

Richard has in the past lectured in dam engineering to 4th year students at the University of Tasmania.

Richard is an associate member of the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) and a vice president of a technical Committee for the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD) He has been a very active participant on both ANCOLD and ICOLD and has published approximately 30 papers at national and international fora.

Richard won the Tasmania Division Young Professional Engineer of the Year Award in 1995.

Tasmania Division Young Professional Engineer of the Year - Rachael Cox, MIEAust.

Rachael is an Electrical Engineer currently employed by SKM. Rachael has demonstrated engineering competence in a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects including substations, wind farms, water treatment and desalination plants around Australia.

She was selected and is currently participating in SKM's Future Leaders Program and has been an active participant in a number of committees both internal and external to SKM, including the South East Australia SKM Regional Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, the Sinclair Knight Merz Women in Consulting Steering Committee and Engineers Australia, Tasmania Northern Division Committee,

Rachael also plays an active role within school communities and has teamed up with the Beacon foundation to promote science and engineering to students during their high school years.
