A Message from the Chair: Comments on CPD program Nov 2010 - Mar 2011

July - December 2010

The dinner meeting and AGM, held on Wednesday 28 July, included a presentation on NBN by Mr. Ravi Bhatia, CEO of Primus Telecommunications.

The committee was elected with a mix of old and new members. David Le Lievre, who was elected as the new Chair, thanked Andrew Price for his time as chair; where the group grew from a few attending, to most meetings averaging 40+ members. He also thanked the committee for their efforts and welcomed all the members. Accounts for the financial year 2009-2010 were tabled by the treasurer, Brendan Grace.

There was reflection on another very successful year, with a series of dinner events covering some of the more interesting and diverse fields within engineering. In addition, the field trips proved to be popular events.

On September 16, the City of Greater Geelong gave a presentation at the groups dinner meeting on the planning for the UCI world championship and the construction of the Bailey Bridge across the Barwon river at Queens Park.

A site visit to the Barwon Heads Bridge followed by a dinner meeting and presentation is planned for October 28.

A visit to Origin's Mortlake power station took place on Friday November 12. (See details below)

The Geelong group is moving ahead with a series of events under planning for the forthcoming 12 month period. The committee would welcome suggestions from any members of the Geelong Group about topics. With the diverse group of members, there must be many projects being worked upon that would be of interest to others. Feel free to drop any of us on the committee an email about a possible topic or site visit.
