About the Division President
Holding a civil engineering degree, John is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
John’s early career was in hydrology (MMBW) and water supply (SR&WSC) before moving to Mobil Oil. John worked with Mobil Oil in Australia, New Zealand and the South West Pacific Region as General Manager and Regional Manager where he championed sustainable, transformational change in many different cultures and at all levels of organisations. John now has his own coaching and consulting practice working across a range of interests including Engineering, Quality Management, Strategic Planning, Safety Management, Business Excellence, Coaching and Team Building.
He is passionate about the need for engineers and the Engineering Team to take up the challenge and show leadership in shaping Australia’s future. He believes the need for engineers to be involved in decisions around infrastructure is extremely urgent. 2012 has been deemed The Year of the Regional Engineering Team (YoRET) and should provide such a focus.
John feels that the push for the regulation of the engineering profession is a watershed for the profession and needs to be in the hearts and minds of all of the engineering team.
John has been an active member of Engineers Australia for many years and has most recently held the following positions:
- Chair of the Board of Engineering, Victoria Division 2010/2011
- Deputy President of the Victoria Division Committee 2011
- Member of the Civil College Board
- Chair of VicCELM 2008 -2009
