As an engineer, I want to learn as much as possible about the profession, both within and outside of my core discipline. This is why I joined as a student member and why I've continued to renew my membership each and every year for the past 14 years. |

Andrew Goelst MIEAust CPEng I have never looked back from joining Engineers Australia as a student member. Membership has lead to great friendships, networking, business and career opportunities. It has also been a conduit to engage with, and inspire the next generation of engineers. |
Greg Schofield FIEAust CPEng
Director, Greg Schofield & Associates
Engineers by nature are curious tinkerers and my membership of Engineers Australia allows me to pursue my own curiosities and to meet similarly minded people.
Engineers Australia is part of my working life and over many years my engagement in its many committees has enhanced my understanding of the profession. Pleasures are gained by becoming involved with fellow engineers, rather than standing back and waiting for the organisation to take the initiative.
Through my contacts with Engineers Australia I have heard from and met the best engineering practitioners in the country. The prestige of our Institution attracts leading international engineers to our national conferences, and the opportunities to hear from talented engineers is exciting and professionally affirming.
Interaction with fellow engineers has reinforced my own professional confidence, or otherwise, and has given me a professional compass to compare my own perceptions with like minded colleagues. Such occasions are rarely dull.
No other Australian engineering organisation offers scope for recognition of our qualifications, a conduit for professional development through the discipline of the continuing professional development and interaction with our peers.
If it is not Engineers Australia that looks after the profession of engineering, who else could perform such a diverse task, with all the frailties of humanity.
Engineering is a creative and necessary part of a modern technocratic society and engineers needs a professional body like Engineers Australia to be a vessel for their professional journey.

Ian Kerr FIEAust CPEng I decided to become a civil engineer to be part of a team that served the community through building its infrastructure. To be a fully effective member of that team, I needed to become a Chartered Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers Australia. Membership of Engineers Australia allows me to continue giving service to my Institution as an office bearer. In return, I enjoy the fellowship and respect of members and can keep up-to-date with engineering developments. |

Wing Commander Ross Magno OFIEAust CEngO The Air Force has a professional development program with Engineers Australia. Membership of Engineers Australia provides me with the opportunity to mentor and assist young engineers and prospective engineers. I also have the opportunity to make a difference by contributing to Engineers Australia policies regarding important issues such as the environment, water use and infrastructure. |

Benita Husband, MIEAust CPEng I enjoy attending the ‘women in engineering' and site tour events, and the Engineering Excellence Award dinners are also lots of fun and showcase great projects. I found going through the process of gaining my status as a Chartered Professional Engineer to be very rewarding because it gave me the opportunity to reflect on the great skills that I have picked up through my career. I have also been involved in the Electrical Branch Committee in Victoria, and last year was involved in judging the Engineering Excellence Awards. I also participated in a leadership program, and found that being involved in these activities has provided great networking opportunities, and broadened my understanding of what the engineering profession has to offer. |
Darren Pace GradIEAust
Process Technologist, Shell Australia
Being a member of Engineers Australia keeps me connected with engineers and trades from all over the industry. I get a real sense of what's happening not just in my field, but in the fields of my colleagues. It helps me see the big picture and keeps my eyes open to new opportunities.
Technical seminars offered to me as an Engineers Australia member broadens my engineering skills and knowledge of the industry. It's a good part of my professional development as an engineer.
Thomas Apoyan StudIEAust
2009 Engineers Australia, Victoria Division University Campus Coordinator
Being a student member of Engineers Australia has helped me to see the Engineering Industry outside of the lecture theatre.
Volunteering as an Engineers Australia Campus Coordinator has given me the opportunity participate and organise lots of events that promote the engineering industry. It has provided me with skills and information I can take with me to build industry relationships and get ahead in my future career right from the start.

Melissa Mole StudIEAust I joined Engineers Australia in my second year at university. My free student membership gives me access to frequent events such as Careers Expos (where I found my first real job), workshops on leadership and other valuable skills, and social networking events with professionals in the industry. University can teach you the skills to put a building together, organisations such as Engineers Australia can help you find the people to make it happen. |
