Overview

This year’s International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) theme is enhanced by engineering. It recognises the incredible contribution women engineers are making to the profession and encourages more women and young girls to pursue a career in engineering.

This event will be an opportunity to come together and mark International Women in Engineering day, and to celebrate some of the amazing women, and businesses supporting women, within our local industry. 

Join the conversation as we engage with a panel of prominent local faces, as well as guest speakers, to cover topics relevant to the challenges and opportunities facing women in our engineering sphere whilst enjoying a delicious full buffet breakfast!

About the speakers 

Linda Murry
Linda Murry.jpg
General Manager Hay Point, BHP

Linda has a career spanning more than 20 years in the mining industry and +10years in heavy industrials. Linda has a diverse background in chemistry, processing and mining engineering and has worked in most aspects of the mining supply chain from Production (overburden and ore), Processing, Ports, Maintenance (MEM and Plant/Port/Shutdowns), Logistics and Technical Services. Linda holds a Bachelor of Science, a Masters of Mining Engineering and a number of other qualifications. Linda has a proven track record of business improvement and cultural transformation. Linda is passionate about developing people and is a strong advocate for mentoring and training. Having spent more than 13 years living in remote mining communities, Linda is a strong advocate for improving engagement in the communities and mental health of employees.

Peter Rosier

Principal Structural Engineer & Director, Becker Rosier Engineers

Peter Rosier is a structural engineer and director of Becker Rosier Engineers. After a career of 37 years working on building structures, industrial structures and civil and community structures, Peter still enjoys the challenges and rewards of working collaboratively and providing “hands on” engineering services.

“One of the great rewards of this profession is walking around town and seeing those structures - the physical result of your efforts - standing there”.

Tracey Doyle

Principal Civil Engineer, Stantec

Tracey Doyle is a Principal Civil Engineer and RPEQ at Stantec in Mackay.  Tracey has been involved in a large variety of civil infrastructure projects including mine site surface water drainage, haul roads, mining camps, road design, carparks, water and sewer, sporting facilities, airports and local government works over nearly twenty years in consulting. She also has significant experience in the DRFA space and is currently the Project Manager for Mackay Whitsunday District TMR Restoration works, along with Stantec projects.  

Scott Owen

CEO, Mackay Regional Council

CEO Scott Owen is a passionate, enthusiastic, and innovative leader, who brings significant senior executive experience to Mackay Regional Council.

Before joining council, he had more than five years of local government experience in a number of senior executive roles with the largest council in Australia – most recently managing a team of 2000 staff with a budget of more than $900m.

A continual focus point has been around continuous improvement and simplifying council operations to enhance the customer and community experience.

Throughout his career, he has held several senior executive roles leading large diverse teams with significant budgets and commercial operations. He has led significant organisational transformation.

Hailing from Birmingham in the United Kingdom, he credits his time in the British Armed Forces as making him he person he is today.
