Advanced Manufacturing in Bendigo - Joseph Brady Public Lecture

Overview

Bendigo has a rich and diverse history in manufacturing. Advanced manufacturing remains necessary for regional and national strength, delivering employment to regions, and value through innovation. Please join us to hear about some highlights of Advanced Manufacturing in Bendigo, and participate in a forum Q&A looking at what the future might hold for the sector within the region.

The format of the evening is a small number of short presentations, followed by a panel Q&A session.

Bendigo has a thriving and broad local manufacturing sector, with strong leadership by major companies associated with the Bendigo Manufacturers Group. Companies such as Thales, Keech, and the Australian Turntable Company, are well known, but these companies only represent a portion of the diverse sector.

Brendan Ferns and Dr Bala Hebbar from Keech 3D will present on “Advanced Manufacturing for Mining Efficiency”. Keech has been driving innovation through an active collaboration with Deakin University’s Institute for Frontier Materials since 2013. An outcome has been an innovative new steel alloy for improved penetration and efficiency for ground-engaging tools. The business challenge of competing against lower-cost imported products ensure that Keech must keep their products ‘sharp’, and fit-for-purpose from a deep end-user perspective. The presentation will cover Keech’s journey in this area of advanced manufacturing.

Mark Brennan, FIEAust, from Thales, will present on experiences of production ramp-up for advanced manufacturing of the Hawkei vechicles. (TBC) Mark is also the Chair of the Bendigo Manufacturers Group, and will provide some overall perspective on advanced manufacturing within the region.

Ben Chapman from the Australian Turntable Company is expected to discuss their approach to advanced manufacturing and benefits from digitisation. (TBC)

Please join us for what promises to be an informative and lively evening looking at the future of this vital sector.
