This event will incorporate the Electrical Branch Annual Meeting from 5.50pm, the presentation will commence at 6.00pm

This presentation will detail the practical, economic opportunities for energy storage, review current major deployments, and investigate some of the significant challenges that remain regarding the practical deployment of energy storage in the Australian context.

Guest Speaker: Dr Glenn Platt, CSIRO

Glenn leads the Newcastle Energy Centre and is Deputy Director of CSIRO's Energy business unit, focusing on solving the energy challenges of consumers, business, and grids. Glenn's particular interests range from solar cooling, electric vehicles, smart grids and the integration of large-scale solar systems, through to energy futures modelling, economics and understanding people’s response and uptake of particular low carbon energy options. Through his work Glenn has spun out or started up 8 technology businesses, in solar, batteries, and energy. Glenn is a graduate of Harvard Business School, holds PhD and electrical engineering degrees from the University of Newcastle Australia, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Prior to CSIRO, Glenn worked in Denmark with Nokia Mobile Phones on the standardisation and application of cutting-edge mobile communications technology. Before his time in Denmark, Glenn was employed in an engineering capacity for various Australian engineering consultancies, working on industrial automation and control projects.


Glenn is a Vincent Fairfax Fellow, and a recipient of the Australian Financial Review Young Executive of the year award.
