German Engineering and Early Fire Proofing of Melbourne Buildings

The German engineer Peter Behrendt and the local firm of Palmer, Scott & Co, together introduced German waterproofing methods, Westphalian iron, and Traegerwellblech construction, as well as designing the first wrought iron framed city building.

The presentation will consider these topics within the general context of bituminous waterproofing materials, fireproof construction and iron framing.

As well as being of interest to heritage engineers this talk would be of special interest to fire protection engineers.
