Sarah Hammond
, Senior Associate, Moray & Agnew
Sarah works as a building and construction lawyer regularly acting on major disputes across all Court levels. She advises on negotiation and conclusion of high risk and high value commercial contracts and procurement projects. Sarah acts for local councils, State Owned Corporations and private clients including civil and structural engineers, developers, contractors and other professionals. She was recently successful in the High Court of Australia acting for a civil subcontractor in a legally significant construction law dispute.

Sarah’s presentation will step through the basics of intellectual property, your obligations as an employee or contractor, who owns intellectual property, licensing and leasing of intellectual property, key issues and concepts for contracting, and how to effectively manage risk.

Andrew Caska, Principal, Patent and Trade Mark Attorney, CASKA Intellectual Property
Andrew is a Patent Attorney and Director of Caska IP, who specialise in drafting and filing Australian and International Patent and Trade Mark applications. He studied a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical and Space Engineering, as well as a Master of Engineering in Renewable Energy, Ocean and Fluid Mechanics and started his working career as an Engineer with Roles at Cardno and FLSmidth before becoming a Patent Attorney. Andrew has a particular interest in Australian Inventors and SME's and has been involved with Engineers Australia for many years.as well as assisting the University of Sydney  in engineering and design education.
How is a patented product protected?  |  What would you need to do to avoid infringing a patent if you wanted to engineer something similar? 
Andrew will look at a recently patented product, the Frank Green Smart Cup and will also examine recent litigation which saw him involved to defend local company, Quarry Mining in relation to patent infringement action by Sandvik. Listen closely as Andrew shares valuable “tips and traps” around patents.
