In April 2018 a reciprocal visit was made to Korea to undertake a study tour of that nation's nuclear and industrial facilities. Mr. Barrie Hill, Mr. Robert Parker and Dr Robert Barr were hosted by the Korean Nuclear Association who most generously arranged for inspection of facilities at: KEPCO Nuclear Fuels; KINAC Korean Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control; KORAD - Korean Radioactive Waste Agency; KHNP Saeul Nuclear Power Plant installations Shin Kori 3, 4, 5, 6; KINGS - Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School; Doosan Heavy Industries and KAERI - Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute.
The presentation will cover all aspects of the Korean development of nuclear power from the first imported turnkey plant to world leader for local and exported plants built on time and on budget. In Korea 29 plants are operating and under construction totaling 28500 MWe capacity. Four Korean built 1400 MWe plants are nearing completion in the United Arab Emirates. Lessons for developing countries considering a move to nuclear power will be covered.
