Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of delivering energy to the world?
What are the career prospects, what are the day-to-day activities, how is the energy industry regulated and what is the role of professional organisations in delivering skilled workers?
This momentous event is being jointly run by WA Young Engineers and the WA Oil and Gas Group and is targeted at Tertiary students and graduates as a 90minute session including networking with Industry Representatives
Moderator – Chris Clay (Project Engineer – Tabec and YEA-WA)
NOPSEMA – Cameron Grebe (Environmental Manager)
Dare – Campbell Ballyntyne (Business Manager)
Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants – Mark Williams (Process Engineering Manager and WA O&G Group Chair)
Engineers Australia – Carmen Smith (Tertiary Manager)
About the speakers:
Carmen is a professional science communicator and business development manager, with a BSc in Biology and Geography from the University of Victoria (Canada). Her ten years of experience in the educational non-profit sector have seen her working to reduce conflict between charismatic carnivores and people in the Yukon Territory, chasing tigers and social issues in India, and searching for wolf scat in the name of science in the Great Bear Rainforest. As Engineers Australia’s Tertiary Development Manager for WA she currently contributes to a national strategy which is engaging more than 40 university institutions and 50,000 individuals across Australia to support and mould the next generation of engineers in WA. When not working to connect people and engineering she can be found drinking really great wine and making furry friends at the local dog beach.
Cameron Grebe is Head of Division (Environment) at the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA); Australia’s regulator of offshore safety, well integrity and environmental management of offshore petroleum activities around Australia. He is responsible for leading NOPSEMA’s regulatory oversight of offshore petroleum activity environmental management, including oil spill preparedness and response.
Prior to joining NOPSEMA, Cameron worked at Woodside Energy and Shell Global Solutions International as an environmental engineer, adviser and manager of environmental impact assessment of upstream exploration and production and LNG projects.
Mr Grebe holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Energy Studies.
Mark graduated with honours in both Chemical Engineering and Science (Chemistry) from the University of Melbourne, his home city. With 14 years technical and management experience in the oil and gas industry in Australia and the UK, he currently holds the role of Skills Group Manager for Process and Facilities with Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants in Perth. Mark also holds the position of Chair of the Oil and Gas Group for Engineers Australia in WA, recently championing the Joint Industry Mentoring Program and is an active member of the governing professional engineering body.
Campbell is currently Business Manager of Dare Contract Services one of Perth’s leading technical engineering recruitment consultancies who have specialised in the oil and gas industry for 30 years. He holds a management degree from Curtin University and has 12 years recruitment industry experience all in the WA market. Prior to leading Dare Campbell worked for some of the world’s largest recruitment agents but has always specialised in the engineering sector and has placed staff at all levels from fresh graduates to executive leadership
This gives Campbell a unique insight into what employers are looking for in potential employees, both when recruiting graduates and experienced hires.
