We are delighted to announce that Downer Group will be partnering with Engineers Australia for our 2020 International Women’s Day event series as a Premier Partner, to raise awareness and debate on the critical issue of creating diverse workforces in the future.
Engineers Australia is the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers with around 100,000 members and the leading independent voice for the engineering community with strong links to government, industry education providers and the public at large. We believe that driving tangible change with regard to diversity is not something that can be done by any one organisation or sector or society alone.
It is only through collaboration with organisations such as Downer who are actively taking a leadership position to align its brand with its strategic intent that we can move forward. With a history dating back over 150 years, Downer employs more than 53,000 people across more than 300 sites primarily in Australia and New Zealand but also in the Asia Pacific region, South America and Southern Africa.
With this global perspective and Australian focus, Downer will bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge to raise awareness and debate on the importance of diversity in the workforce.
With less than 13 per cent of degree-qualified female engineers in the workforce, there is a lot of work to be done.
Achieving diversity, including gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace, takes effort and commitment by employers, employees, government and the engineering profession at large.
Once again, we congratulate Downer for becoming a diversity partner of Engineers Australia and look forward to a long-standing partnership going forward.
