On 30 January 2018, Qatar Chapter kicked off the 2018 events calendar with a technical talk entitled Power of Safety. The event venue was facilitated by Msheireb Properties at Msheireb Enrichment Centre, Sheraton Park in Doha and was well represented across the industry with around 50 attendees present.
The evening commenced with an introduction from Mr Mustafa Adra, President of Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter, who welcomed all those in attendance. Mr Clarke Williams from Msheireb Properties also welcomed the guests to the impressive venue and gave an introduction to the Msheireb Downtown Development.
The technical talk was presented by Mr Mario Darmanin, Director of Head of Structures at AECOM. Safety is strongly embedded in the four development pillars of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 - economic development, human development, social development and environmental development. The presentation highlighted how consultants, constructions managers and program managers can influence safety and understand how we can all embrace safety culture and values as our social responsibility.
The key objectives were highlighted in a five-part video. Each video delivered an important message on safety in the workplace, the cost of safety on business and society, leadership influence on safety culture in the workplace and the benefits of improving the safety culture in the workplace, creating a more pleasant, motivating, collaborative place to work. Each video initiated positive discussions and reflections of day to day industry practices.
A special thank you to fellow committee member, Mario Darmanin who delivered a great presentation, and to Msheireb Properties for allowing us to host this presentation at the Enrichment Centre.
