The panel consisted of three senior executives in Qatar who have had extremely succesful careers. The Panel included:

The evening commenced with an introduction by Engineers Australia - Qatar Chapter President Mr. Mustafa El Cherkawi who welcomed the panel, the attendees and thanked the Australian Embassy. Moreover, Mustafa highlighted the upcoming Engineers Australia events in Qatar, the International Women’s Day and the World Engineering Day.

The event was moderated by Engineers Australia Committee Member, Mr. Rami Badaoui. The panelists first introduced themselves and provided some background on their career developments, successes and challenges. The discussion commenced with probing questions ranging from executive time management, learning and development opportunities for engineers in Qatar and business outlook in the short, medium and long-term. The conversation involved lively debate around the most expensive mistakes made, what it takes to be a leader and how to go about making effective decisions once you’re at the top.

The panelists advice to engineers and attendees was to “always be curious, you shouldn’t be a silent partner in your profession, you have to be active, there is more than one way to get to the top - perseverance, embracing change, resilience, communication, hard work, passion, motivation, stepping outside the comfort zone & integrity.”

The attendees were fully engaged during the discussion and raised some insightful questions to the panel during the Q&A time allotted.

In the closing remarks the panel offered advice they would give their children and to aspiring leaders within the audience, centered on resilience, communication and integrity.

Mr. Daniel Ross, First Secretary and Consul at the Australian Embassy in Qatar and Mustafa then presented the three panelists with trophy of appreciation in recognition of their service to the engineering profession.

Engineers Australia - Qatar Chapter would like to thank our panel speakers for their open and honest discussion and for providing an entertaining, informative and inspiring evening for all. Moreover, thank you to the Australian Embassy in Qatar for the continuous help and support.
