Engineer’s Australia Qatar Chapter in collaboration with GHD digital team hosted a technical talk titled “The Applications of Virtual Reality (VR) in the Construction Industry” on 18th of November 2019. The talk took place at cinema theater in Qatar Foundation Student Center.
The talk was conducted by Nasser Atiyah (Mechanical Engineer), a Digital and Emerging Technologist Consultant at GHD-QATAR. Since joining the company, he has led the use of Virtual Reality (VR) in engineering design for the benefit of both the designers and clients.
As the digital services now leverage and contribute in the business and building service industry, Engineers Australia arranged this technical talk to convey the updated innovation solutions. GHD-Qatar is delivering five disciplines in the digital services; digital strategy and transformation, cyber security and risk, data and analytics, smart technology solutions and digital innovation. This talk was about the discipline of smart technology and solutions which mainly contain two chapters. One for the Virtual Reality (VR) and the second about the Drones.
With the global market of Virtual Reality (VR) being expected to grow to 44.7% by 2024, Nasser begun his talk with the Virtual Reality. First, he discussed in general the definition of VR, then he moved to explain VR equipment and utilized it in a showcase that was already set-up in his software.
Due to the drones market being new in Qatar, Nasser specified a detailed technical presentation about it in the second chapter of the talk. He then went on to mention the five key disciplines of using the drones which are; master plan, survey, design, build and facility management.
There were over 50 attendees from a variety of ages starting from 15 years old, the talk attracted engineers from government as well as engineers from the private sector.
