Engineers Australia provides assessment services that are used to determine eligibility for range of things including membership, skilled migration and certain engineering specialisations.
If you disagree with your assessment outcome, you can ask for a review or an appeal.
Which assessment outcomes you can appeal
We can only review outcomes that have been provided for a:
- Competency assessment
- Chartered assessment
- Registration assessment
- Engineering Executive assessment
- Migration skills assessment
- Specialisation assessment.
When you can request a review or appeal
You can request a review of your original outcome or appeal your review outcome if you believe:
- the assessment has not considered all relevant submitted materials
- irrelevant information was taken into account
- due process has not been followed
- the conduct of the assessment has demonstrated bias that has disadvantaged you, or the candidate if you submitted on behalf of someone else.
Requirements
Your review application must:
- be lodged within three months of the date of the original assessment outcome letter
- set out the grounds on which the review is sought and include a letter outlining your reasons for the requesting the review
- be submitted online.
Review process
Once we’ve received your request, a review will be conducted by an assessor who was not involved in processing your original application. They’ll scrutinise the original assessment decision for errors in both assessment and administrative processes.
The review will be based solely on the evidence that was available to the original assessor. No new evidence can be submitted for the review unless specifically requested by the assessor or under exceptional circumstances determined by us. We are under no obligation to seek further information or documentation from you.
The review may take up to eight weeks.
Review outcome
You’ll receive a written outcome of the review decision.
If your review is successful and the decision from the original assessment is overturned, the review fee will be refunded.
If the decision of the original assessment is upheld, we’ll include the reasons for our decision. You have the right to a final appeal against the outcome of the review.
Requirements
You can only request an appeal if you have received a review outcome.
Your appeal application must:
- be lodged within six months of the date of the original assessment outcome letter
- set out the grounds on which the appeal is sought and include a letter outlining your reasons for requesting the appeal
- be submitted online.
Appeal process
Once we’ve received your request, an appeal will be conducted by an appeal manager who was not involved in processing your review or original application. They’ll scrutinise both the review outcome and original assessment decision for errors in both assessment and administrative processes.
If you are appealing a Chartered, Engineering Executive, registration or specialisation assessment outcome, we may seek advice from an independent industry expert to reach a decision.
No additional information or evidence will be considered during the appeal, unless requested by the assessor or under exceptional circumstances as determined by us.
The appeal may take up to 12 weeks.
Appeal outcome
You’ll receive a written outcome of the appeal decision.
If your appeal is successful and the decision from the original assessment is overturned, the review and appeal fees will both be refunded.
If the decision of the original assessment is upheld, we’ll include the reasons for our decision. The appeal decision is final. You cannot re-appeal.
