Meet the Speakers 

Ruby Heard | Founder, Electrical Engineer and Energy Consultant, Alinga Energy Consulting

Ruby Heard

Ruby Heard is an electrical engineer from Melbourne. After working as a building services engineer for Arup, designing electrical and lighting systems for buildings of significance in Australia and overseas, a transfer to the San Francisco office in 2015 saw her working predominantly with Google and enabled her to specialise in complex solar arrays and microgrids.

She was awarded an Emerging Leader in Sustainability recognition by the Design Futures Council in 2017. 

In early 2018 Ruby left Arup to volunteer in Ethiopia for 6 months through Engineers Without Borders, where she supported the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR) energy team with the design and installation of solar plus battery storage mini-grids whilst training refugee and host community energy cooperatives as technicians and energy service providing businesses. 

Since November 2018 Ruby has returned to Australia and formed Alinga Energy Consulting to continue her work in the renewable energy and microgrid space with a focus on off-grid applications, remote indigenous communities and islands.

 

Alison Rowe | CEO, Moreland Energy Foundation

Alison Rowe

Alison Rowe is the CEO of Moreland Energy Foundation Limited. Her experience in the sustainability field spans over 15 years, including global responsibility for strategy development, designing and delivering transformation programs, commercialising new services, product development, consulting, marketing and advocacy. Alison has experience across a range of industries.

Alison is the Chair of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council Australia and a Member of the Energy Efficiency Council’s Policy and Advocacy Committee.

Alison also completed the Business and Environment program through Cambridge University, holds an MBA and Post Graduate Diploma in Technology Management and is a Williamson Fellow.

 

Scott Ferraro | Net Zero Intitative Program Director, Monash University

Scott Ferraro

Scott Ferraro is a leader in net zero emission strategy development and implementation, with a deep understanding of the opportunities to reduce emissions across the energy, transport and buildings sectors. 

Currently as Program Director of Monash University’s Net Zero Initiative, Scott and his team are focused on transitioning Monash’s Australian operations to net zero emissions by 2030. Monash’s Clayton campus will incorporate a sustainable microgrid and provide a centre of excellence for microgrid and Distributed Energy Resources (DER) projects across Australia and the region. 

The project aims to find solutions to the challenges of an energy sector transitioning to a high penetration of distributed renewables, while also increasing reliability and providing fair and affordable energy to customers.
