Wollongong's Blue Mile Foreshore Project. Presentation and Site walk

The construction of the Blue Mile Tramway Seawall upgrade at Wollongong Boat Harbour is now complete. Engineering representative(s) from Wollongong City Council will provide a presentation and site visit of the upgrade featuring a new seawall, balustrade, lighting, seating, and widening work.

Known as the Tramway - as it was previously part of the Mount Pleasant Colliery Tramway which transported coal from above the university to Wollongong Harbour - has now been upgraded. The upgrade has solved the formerly narrow walkway which caused a bottleneck for cyclists and pedestrians. The council has constructed wide concrete walk and cycleway for installed seating. A new sea wall has been built to cover the historic one, which the council said was “becoming increasingly unstable and unsafe due to the harsh environment”.

This event will provide an understanding of the engineering challenges, logistics, and outcomes involved when working near sensitive environmental receivers in a highly aggressive variable location.
