Women in Engineering- The International Women's Day Cocktail Reception

To celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) for 2019, Women in Engineering is hosting a fun cocktail networking evening.
IWD acknowledges the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. The campaign for this year’s IWD is #BalanceforBetter. We are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance is not a women's issue, it's a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees and more gender-balance in wealth.
Our keynote speaker for the night will be the amazing Linda Miller, (Construction Director, Sydney Metro, Bechtel Infrastructure). Linda will share from her wide variety of experiences and challenges on balance in the industry, its effect on both our personal and professional lives and its role the workplace of the future.
Join us to hear from an inspirational speaker, network with fellow peers over canapés, drinks and help create a #BalanceforBetter.

Linda Miller
Linda is a Bechtel leader currently serving as Construction Director on the new Sydney Metro Tunnels & Stations Excavation team. Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project, which, when complete, will deliver 31 Metro Stations and more than 66 km of new tunnels, including tunnels crossing under the iconic Sydney Harbour.

Prior to this, Linda was the Project Manager of London's Crossrail Farringdon Station and previously the Project Manager for Crossrail's Connaught Tunnel Project, which inspirationally included bringing a 135-year old disused tunnel back to life. Crossrail is currently Europe's largest construction project, adding 42km of new East-West tunnels and 10 new Stations under the heart of central London. As a result of this work, Linda has been featured on several recent TV Documentaries on the BBC.

For over 25 years, Linda has worked for Bechtel on significant projects, including a new Space Launch Complex at Cape Canaveral, Florida, the "Big Dig" highway tunnel under Boston, Massachusetts and many other challenges across the globe.
Linda was born in the USA and began her career as a US Army Officer & Helicopter Pilot. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from West Point Military Academy, New York and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.

In 2017, Linda was selected in The Queen's Birthday 2017 Honours List as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), for services to engineering and for her work in promoting diversity that evolved from a personal passion for encouraging girls & women to join the global engineering & construction industry.
