Wind Tunnel Testing for Structural Optimization of Buildings

The increasingly complex structures in architecture means the simplified approaches outlined in design standards cannot be applied and wind tunnel model studies must be used to determine the structural wind loads (static and dynamic) and design pressures.

The visit to MEL Consultants’ wind tunnel facility, hosted by Dr Michael Eaddy, will include breakfast, a short presentation on wind tunnel studies and a tour of the facility.

The presentation will focus on wind tunnel studies for structural wind loads and how they benefit Structural Engineers, and the tour of the facility will show the wind tunnel methodology used for these studies and allow an open forum for any questions.

Dr Michael Eaddy

Michael has been working in the wind engineering area for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in desktop and wind tunnel model studies of buildings and structures. He also takes a particular interest in the wind impacts on the built environment.

Michael manages a team of wind engineers at the Melbourne Office overseeing all aspects of the wind engineering studies undertaken by MEL Consultants including environmental wind effects and wind loads and pressures.
