Marine structure corrosion and its mitigation is an on-going battle. A number of options are available to either slow down the rate of, or to stop, corrosion.
These include material selection, coatings, and cathodic protection. However, each has its limitations and selecting the most-suitable option is not always a simple decision. In some cases, incorrect decision are made based on lack of knowledge or misconceptions.
This presentation will discuss the pros and cons of each of the above, as well as providing practical examples which can be adopted to extend the life of a structure and reduce on-going maintenance costs.
