Dr David Pointing, General Manager Engineers Australia Tasmania

Mathew Brooks, GHD

Mathew is the Team Leader - Traffic Planning for GHD's Tasmanian operations, leading a team of 6 traffic and transport professionals. Mathew is a Chartered Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelors of Civil Engineering with Honours, Masters of Engineering (Water and Environment) and Masters of Transportation. This broad level of technical experience has enabled him to work on several key road infrastructure design and planning projects across Tasmania and Australia, however, it is Mathew’s experience and expertise in traffic modelling that he is most renowned for in the industry. With over 15 years industry experience, Mathew has worked on several key projects including the Newcastle Light Rail Project, the Brooker Highway upgrades, and the development of Mesoscopic and Hybrid Modelling Guidelines for New South Wales, to name a few.

Mathew is an inaugural and current member of the Engineers Tasmania Southern Committee, the inaugural Deputy-Chair of the Tasmanian Committee of the Engineers Australia’s Transport Australia Society, and the Tasmanian representative on the Transport Modelling Network Committee, a subcommittee of the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management.

For the last several years Mathew has donated his time as a technical supervisor for Honours’ and Masters’ students at the University of Tasmania, supervising research into Traffic and Transport Engineering. Mathew has recently accepted a casual lecturing role with the University of Tasmania delivering the Transportation Engineering Unit, which forms part of the Bachelors and Masters of Civil Engineering courses.
