Nishi Building Site Tour

Join the Sustainable Engineering Society of Engineer's Australia on the 16th July to experience a behind the scenes tour of NewActon Nishi, one of Canberra's most iconic sustainable buildings. The site boasts a 6-star Greenstar rating, 5.5 star NABERS base-building energy rating, and 5 star NABERS water rating. Lead by the site's facilities management team, visitors will get the opportunity to learn about the day-to-day operation of a sustainable building, including the commercial HVAC plant, mixed-mode ventilation system, irrigated green facade, blackwater treatment plant, and the 400kW rooftop PV system.

Attendees will meet at Kendall lane Theatre at 5.30pm for a 20-30 minute presentation with slides/AV followed by 15 minutes of question time.  Site tour will kick off at 6.15pm for 45-60 minutes.

Numbers are limited.  To avoid disappointment, please register as soon as possible.

About the Speakers:

Trevor Rosser is an electrician by trade who made the switch into Facility Management over 10 years ago. He’s been the Senior Facility Manager at Nishi for that last 4 years – just long enough to have found all the gas bypass switches, DC isolators and blackwater diverter valves! With Trevor’s experience, he is well placed to discuss the effect of boutique design on maintenance practicality.

While John Mudie is a relatively recent addition to Colliers International, he is a Mechanical Engineer and his involvement with Nishi started 5 years ago as one of the energy and NABERS consultants appointed to the building. With such a range of systems and possible points of failure, high building performance has not been easy to achieve. So John has first-hand experience on some of the nuances of positive-displacement return air provisioning as well as what is possible to achieve with only simple services design
