Ginninderry is a new residential development which extends from the ACT into NSW to the west of Belconnen. Ultimately home to approximately 30,000 residents over the next 30-40 years, Ginninderry aims to showcase world leadership through its planning, design, construction and post-occupancy performance.
Ginninderry is governed by a joint venture between the Suburban Land Agency acting as agent for the Australian Capital Territory and Riverview Developments (ACT) Pty Ltd with Riverview Projects (ACT) Pty Ltd acting as Development Manager.
A vision was established for Ginninderry, when planning for the new community began, to be a “sustainable community of international significance in the Capital Region”. This vision has formed the backbone of all decisions made at Ginninderry - ensuring that social, environmental and economic factors are taken into consideration in a triple bottom line approach. The past two years has seen the beginning of construction in Strathnairn, Ginninderry’s first suburb.
The development is seeking to challenge the ‘norms’ in relation to how new communities are planned today and how they can be developed with resilience for the future. The project has already been widely recognised for its holistic approach to achieving its overarching vision and is considered a ‘pilot’ project for many new initiatives. Engineering is a key discipline embedded into the project team working alongside other community building disciplines including sustainability, landscaping, training and employment and cultural planning. As the project explores many interesting challenges and opportunities, we invite you to share in this experience.
